Police Ramp Up Presence During Christmas Season
Additional manpower has been deployed into the streets of Belize City and other parts of the country during the Christmas Season. Annually, the police department ramps up its vigilance in various communities, including downtown Belize City, where certain criminal activities such as burglaries and robberies are likely to take place. With a strategy in place, officers have been on the ground ensuring that shoppers, business owners and residents remain safe during this time of year where there is increased economic activity.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
“As we did in September when we had the carnival, we definitely increased our patrols. We came up with different strategies, we looked at the hotspot areas that we were expecting crime and so we definitely put our boots to the ground in those particular areas. We put even more boots on the ground for the carnival season, likewise in November for November nineteenth. And so we are hoping for the entire month of December we will see a more intensified approach from the police department. The commissioner has assured us that yes, we will target those areas that have been problematic over the last few years and especially look out for opportunists, criminals who are looking for that opportunity to take advantage of people. We will definitely be looking at that and trying to prevent robberies and thefts and burglaries from taking place.”
