Prime Minister John Briceño
“Please allow me a minute to acknowledge the life of Sylvia Flores, an outstanding woman and Belizean. But, more than anything she was an outstanding leader, a leader that was never afraid to stand up for the people she represents. She was one of the Mayors that Dangriga has had, Speaker, President of the Senate, Area Representative, Minister in government, pretty much everything you could name in the public service, Sylvia Flores did it and did it to a very high standard. We could all recognize that Sylvia came from the same cloth of George Price. She served with humility, a leader never concerned about personal wealth but the wealth of her people and her country. You can never say she had a mean bone in her body or has done anything, any kind of decision as she or her siblings would have benefitted. She is a wonderful example of a true public servant is. I had the blessings that on the nineteenth when I was celebrating Garifuna Settlement day that it was insisted that I go and visit Sylvia at her home. Sharon her daughter was amazed because Ms Sylvia was already starting to lose her memory and would not recognize people. But, she recognized me and said Prime Minister how you doing. And we talked a bit about the work and she continued to encourage me as the Prime Minister and the leader of the party.”
Moses “Shyne” Barrow, the Leader of the Opposition also sent his regards to the family of the late Sylvia Flores.
