New Buses to be Introduced at the Top of the New Year
Minister of Transportation Rodwell Ferguson provided a brief update on the public transportation industry, in light of changes that will come into effect with respect of an upgrade to fleets of buses that will be introduced in early 2023. According to Minister Ferguson, commuters will observe new buses on the roads as early as January first.

“We want to see a gradual approach, so expect January first yoh wahn sih sohn different buses on the highway.”

“Have you seen any physical changes on the buses so far?”
Rodwell Ferguson
“Yes, I’ve seen Tillett’s from Orange Walk bring in at least two or three already. Then Sergio Chuc will bring in another three or so by January first and the others are now negotiating with this operator right here in Belize.”

“What kind of role is the ministry playing in all of this? What kind of support is being given to the bus owners?”
Rodwell Ferguson
“Initially we are hoping that in the end we can come and say, government is going to subsidize or contribute.”

“Any update in relation to the Floralia run up north?”
Rodwell Ferguson
“There is a transport board and I don’t dictate to them, they decide. I know right now it’s before the board and that will be the final result. Whatever the result is, it’s to benefit Belizean people.”
