Financing for New Sarstoon F.O.B. on the Way
And the forward operating base at Sarstoon is expected to be up and running within the next two months. Minister of Defence, Florencio Marin Junior says that approval was obtained at the last sitting of the House of Representatives and construction should commence shortly to rehabilitate the structure.
Florencio Marin Jr., Minister of National Defence
“We went to the House for the financing so now we can begin to start the construction of it. I don’t anticipate that to take more than eight weeks. At the same time I don’t want to be held to a firm timeline, but there is a priority for us to get it operating again. It is a critical operating base for us to have operational. We think that it was built hastily in the past. Of course, climate change is here and it is affecting the whole coast, the F.O.B. is no exception, but right now one of the main parts of the funding that we received. And right now, the funding is not to fully build a new one – we are looking for financing down the road – but the funding right now is to buttress this one so that it can become operational again; more important for the safety of the sailors and the soldiers who will be operating.”
