Outstanding artists to be honored

While the National Youth Choir is being formed, the Arts Council is also taking time out to honor outstanding Belizean artists in an awards ceremony to be held next week. According to Cultural Assistant Phyllis Butler, the theme for this year’s awards is “The magic of the theatre and the soul of the art”.

“This year we will be focussing on fine arts and technical painting or visual arts. The awardees for the visual arts are Michelle Perdomo, George Gabb, Benjamin Nicholas and the posthumous award goes to Louis Belisle. For the technical theatre it will be Mr. Gilbert Matthews, Mr. Brian Hall, Anthony Christie and the posthumous award goes to Mr. Narciso Valdez. It will be held on the first of August at eight p.m. at the Bliss Institute.”

Q: “Will there also be some type of exhibition to go along with the awards?”

“Yes, along with the awards show the back section of the Belisle Art Gallery will be turned into a permanent gallery with Belize’s art collections and all the artists’ paintings and sculptures will be right there.”

Tickets for the Oustanding Artist Awards are on sale at twenty dollars for adults and ten for children, at the Bliss Institute.
