Churches ask politicians to play fair

While the strident voices of the politicians and the incessant noise of their electronic advertisements continue unabated, a quiet appeal for sanity has been issued by the nation’s religious leaders. In a press release circulated today the Belize Council of Churches asks the political parties to “refrain from engaging in conflicts that seem to be alien to the best interest of our people and stop seeking to gain mileage at the expense of others. Let the campaign be clean and above board. Give respect where respect is due and deal with the problems and issues of our time.” The document is signed by Council President Father Leroy Flowers and secretary Gweneth Gillett, as well as Catholic Bishop O.P. Martin, Anglican Bishop Sylvestre Romero, Reverend Moises Chan of the Presbyterian Church, Methodist Reverend Leslie Anderson, Salvation Army Captain Stanley Griffin and Pastor Erskin of the Church of God in Christ. We will let viewers judge for themselves just how well the politicians are responding to the churches’ call.
