Shyne Supports George Lovell in Upcoming Belmopan Convention

The three-way race for the Garden City is several weeks away and tonight, U.D.P. Party Leader Shyne Barrow has come forward to announce that he is throwing his support behind former Chief Executive Officer George Lovell.  As you would know, John Saldivar has been cleared by the U.D.P.’s National Party Council to participate in the upcoming standard bearers convention, against businessman Emil Torres and Retired Colonel Lovell.  Barrow is leading an offensive against Saldivar, who has been designated by the U.S. State Department as a significantly corrupt individual. According to Barrow, despite his attempts, he could not convince Torres or Lovell to step aside and allow for a two-way race.

Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition

“So it was my undertaking to convince one of the two, Mr. Torres or Colonel Lovell, to join forces so that the Belmopan people could rid themselves of the shadow and ghost, the UDP Belmopan, the UDP could rid itself of the ghost of John Saldivar.  I was not able to get either one to agree that they would step aside, thus I had to determine who I thought was the best to turn the page from significant corruption and to me that can be no one other than Colonel Lovell, a decorated military officer, a former public servant, a former CEO, unquestionable character, a distinguished service, career or service to this country.  These are the types of candidates that we need all over the country.  These are types of candidates that the Belizean people expect the opposition to present to them if we are serious about reform, about rebuilding and regaining the trust of the Belizean people.”
