Brad’s Gaming Group Finally Responds to Lotteries Committee
Attorneys for Brad’s Gaming Group Limited have responded to the chair of the Lotteries Committee, in respect of a letter that was sent to Managing Director Kim Chee on December twenty-third, 2022. The thirteen page rejoinder, written by Senior Counsel Dean Barrow on behalf of his client, addresses each of the Lotteries Committee’s concerns individually, beginning with the tickets that are currently being sold. According to the letter, Brad’s Gaming Company Limited, the predecessor of B.G.G.L., managed government’s lotteries for a decade and during that time it utilized a ticket that had been approved by the Lotteries Committee. When B.G.G.L. assumed the agreement and license in April 2020, the then minister and the Lotteries Commission sanctioned the continued use of the same ticket. Several months later, B.G.G.L. substituted a four leaf clover as the mark on the slip of paper and that change was approved by the minister and the Lotteries Commission. As it relates to the system for gathering sales data, the company’s counsel says that there is substance for the complaint being lodged by the Lotteries Committee since there is no legal requirement for B.G.G.L. to consult with the committee. Brad’s Gaming Group Limited was only required to establish a system to be agreed first with the Belize Tax Department and then the Lotteries Committee. The difficulty was in implementing the system because when the license was awarded and Clause 3 under the conditions of the license was to take effect, the Tax Department already had its own system under law. We will have more on B.G.G.L.’s lengthy response in Wednesday’s newscast.
