When Will Deadly Police Vans Be Replaced?

Those poorly ventilated police vans, one of which claimed the life of twenty-year-old Derrick Uh in August 2022, are still in operation. In fact, only recently, accused murderer Elmer Nah was transported to the Belmopan Magistrates Court inside one of those vans. But, the Commissioner of Police had committed to replacing those vans following Uh’s death. So, what has been the hold up? We asked ASP Fitzroy Yearwood.

“I know that we are in the process of receiving new vehicles that were purchased by our ministry. The delay with our vehicles is with the providers. So, I will ask the commissioner for an update on that and definitely I will be able to respond to that. But, I know we are in the process of replacing those vehicles.”
