Police Cadet Carry Out Clean Up Campaign across Belize City
On Saturday, police cadets engaged in a cleanup campaign across Belize City. It included the planting of trees in select neighbourhoods such as the Yarborough and Pickstock areas and the Lopez Mateo Park. The objective is to use community service as a means for young people to give back to their communities and make a difference in the lives of others. Commander of the Community Policing Unit of the Belize Police Department, ACP Howell Gillett says “when young people participate in community service, they learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, and leadership. They also gain a sense of purpose and fulfilment, as they are able to see the direct impact of their efforts on their community.” Community service is an excellent way for young people to develop a sense of civic responsibility and understanding the importance of being an active and engaged citizen. The department intends to take this initiative to other parts of the country.
