Fatal RTA Claims Life of Elderly Man

A road traffic accident on the Phillip Goldson Highway has claimed the life on an elderly man. Eighty-year-old Augusto Acosta was riding his bicycle between mile seventy-six and seventy-seven on the highway when a motorcycle collided into him. He received extensive bodily injuries and died while undergoing treatment. The driver of the motorbike, thirty-two-year-old Misael Montejo was transported to the Belize Medical Associates in Belize City. Police told us more.

“On Friday at about six twenty a.m. between mile seventy six and seventy seven on the Phillip Goldson Highway where two male person were observed on the side of the highway. A black Lifan motorcycle was also on the scene and a beach cruiser. One of the victims Augusto Acosta, eighty year old of Concepcion Village was riding his bicycle in the direction towards the Libertad Junction when he was knocked from behind. Mr. Acosta he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Corozal Hospital. Mr. Montejo was transported to Medical Associates here in Belize City. I received information from that family which would want to suggest that Misael Montejo may have succumbed to his injuries also. We received a message yesterday from the family members. Our officers were tasked with making a check, but I am also waiting for confirmation from CIB as to whether this is true.”

Late this evening police confirmed that Misael Montejo has been released from the hospital and is cooperating with investigators.
