Police and Ex-police Charged for Murder of San Pedro Businessman
Forty-three-year-old Elvis Polanco, a businessman from San Pedro, was shot and killed in November 2022 by a pair of men, including a former police officer, as well as a police constable who was on interdiction from the department. The motive of the deadly attack on Polanco is believed to have been robbery, as he was relieved of eleven thousand dollars during the incident. Earlier today, Police Constable Winfield Mortis and twenty-five-year-old Edward Moraga were arraigned in Magistrate Court Number Six where they were charged jointly with one count of murder and one count of robbery. They were remanded to custody at the Belize Central Prison until March 10th, 2023.
