Female Police Recruit Charged for Cyber Offense
Twenty-three-year-old Shania Dominguez, a recruit with the Belize Police Department, has been charged under the Cyber Crime Act. It is alleged that the resident of Biscayne Village, who appeared unrepresented in Court Number Six, used a computer system to transmit data that is obscene and vulgar. The intent was purportedly to humiliate, harass and cause substantial harm to another woman and for that she was read three counts in the lower courts earlier today, since the harmful messages were reportedly sent on three different occasions. No plea was taken from the accused cadet since the prosecutor is awaiting further instructions; therefore the charges were simply read to Dominguez. With no objection to bail, Dominguez was offered bail in the sum of four thousand dollars, plus one surety of the same amount. Shania Dominguez is scheduled to return to court on March fourteenth, at which time the prosecutor will be able to indicate whether the matter will be dealt with summarily or on indictment.
