Authorities Yet to Confirm Identity of Body Found on Friday

And, while Augustine’s family is confident that the discovered human remains are his, today Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero told reporters that authorities are yet to confirm an identity. Here is what he had to say during today’s police press conference.

“On Friday, police responded to reports that a body was found in the Jane Usher area. The body was removed from the area. It was found in a swampy area and has been taken to the morgue. We are awaiting a postmortem examination at this time and we are trying to establish the identity of this person. Based on the postmortem, we will do further investigation through DNA to determine who this person is.”

“Has any family member of several missing persons from Belize City come forward in an attempt to identify these remains?”

“That will be done during the post-mortem. The remains were taken to the morgue and they are there at this time.”
