No arrests yet in Spanish Lookout shooting
There is very little in the way of new information to report tonight on Monday’s shooting in Spanish Lookout. Police continue to comb the hills out west for a group of gunmen who terrorized three Mennonite girls and left one wounded. According to the officer in charge of the San Ignacio police station, three people were briefly detained for questioning, but have been released. Four A.K. forty seven shells, one live round and four point forty five caliber shells have been recovered, however, from the scene of the crime. Ballistics tests are being done on the shells to try and establish their origin. The police say the motive for the shooting remains a mystery but speculation is that the men might have been a group of robbers who were surprised as they made their way to the Plett house that night. Police check points on the Western Highway are still operational and while the gunmen continue to elude the cops, the police presence on the highway has been helping to nab traffic offenders and illegal immigrants. So far, close to ten people without proper documentation have been rounded up and handed over to the Immigration Department.
