Opposition Leader Supports Majid Khan’s Relocation to Belize

Majid Khan

Pakistani national Majid Khan arrived in Belize from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba on Thursday morning and was greeted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He had served twenty years of his life in detention for his involvement in acts of terrorism, after being captured by CIA agents in Karachi, Pakistan.  Last night we told you that Leader of the Opposition Shyne Barrow is in support of Majid Khan’s relocation to Belize. Earlier today, we caught up with the Leader of the Opposition outside the chamber of the National Assembly where he further explained his position on Khan’s relocation. Barrow doubled down on his view that Khan poses no threat to Belize.

“My support that I have given is based on a humanitarian level as well as a personal level. I note than anyone in the House of Representatives and maybe in all of Belize I know the journey of reformation… contrition. I understand that far too well. I understand that twenty two years ago the nineteen year old child that I was that made a mistake even though I was defining myself I am not the same person. I have totally changed and transformed. So for me personally the story of Mr. Khan struck a cord. That does not erase what he was convicted of the participation of terrorism. But, he also participated in cooperating with the United States Government to prevent further terrorist act.”

“Did it strike you as odd that the Briceño Administration would welcome a Reformed terrorist with open arms but it your case it seemed that every chance they got to target you about your past, they did?”

Moses Shyne Barrow

“The irony of life, but it I was like the P.U.P. then I would have no hope of being the next prime Minister. I pride myself on not being someone who judges others and who is lacking of compassion and understanding and forgiveness.”
