Majority U.D.P. Supports Visit of Cuban President, Says Hugo Patt
Not all U.D.P. party members agree with the Opposition Leaders’ position on the Cuban President’s visit. This morning, Hugo Patt, the Area Representative for Corozal North, took to social media to express support for the Cuban President and the Republic’s strong ties with Belize. Patt told us that he and many of his colleagues within the U.D.P. are in support of the visit.
On the Phone: Hugo Patt, Area Representative, Corozal North
“I think the visit is the first time that we have a President of the Republic of Cuba coming to visit Belize. I think this is a brilliant opportunity and it shows the long standing relationship that Belize has had with Cuba. I think at this point it is important to indicate that Cuba, particular given the fact that Cuba has had this embargo and economic sanctions for some sixty add years and despite the hardships it has brought on the economy of Cuba, they have always been there to support Belize. So, we must as a country be able to show that sort of appreciation, that brotherhood for the country and people of Cuba.”

“Do you intend to be present at any of these events?”
Hugo Patt, Area Representative, Corozal North
“As long as I am alive and healthy I intend to be there.”

“What do you make of your party leader’s position; albeit an independent position?”
Hugo Patt, Area Representative, Corozal North
“Well, everybody is entitled to his other opinion. So, we have to respect that. But, from my standpoint and I could pretty much indicate that the majority of colleagues are in support of the president’s visit and more than anything they welcome the president to Belize.”
