Golden performances begin at Bliss
The golden stars of the Belize District Children’s Festival of Arts will be giving an encore presentation of their award winning performances this week. There were over one hundred and twenty golden certificates awarded during this year’s two-week festival, with performances taking place both day and night at the Bliss Institute. Walking away with top honors in this year’s festival were: best all arounder Andrew Middleton of the Belize School for the Deaf and most promising dance student Kimberly Cacho of the Belize Dance Company. Most outstanding dance teacher went to both Icilda Humes and Mark Bood for choreography done for St. John Vianney School. Hazel Griffin of Julietta Burrowes Music School and the Central Christian School Choir got awards for most promising music student and choir respectively, while Julietta Burrowes herself, was honored as the most outstanding music teacher. The most outstanding technical performance was given to Ladyville Angelical School and three people took home the most promising arts and craft student awards: Marvin Hyde of E.P. Yorke, Winston Smith of St. John’s College and Jack Tsao of Belize Elementary. The most outstanding arts and craft teachers were Yasser Musa of St. John’s College and Celia Usher of Belize Elementary School. Vanessa Gladden of St. Luke’s Methodist was named the most promising drama student and the most outstanding drama teacher was Renold Bodden of Belize Elementary. Of the forty-five schools that attended, Belize Elementary received the most golden awards. Golden nights performances start tonight at seven at the Bliss and will continue every night until June fifth. Saturday June sixth’s performance will be held at ten-thirty in the morning. Tickets, available at the Bliss Institute and through the schools, are five dollars each.
