Graduation for Bee Keepers in Orange Walk Town
Forty-five new beekeepers graduated today in Orange Walk. The graduates are from the Belize, Orange Walk, and Corozal districts. The training course was a collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and the CARICOM Development Fund. During the training, the new beekeepers were provided with materials and equipment to start their own businesses. It is expected that they will generate much-needed income and, by extension, contribute to Belize’s food security and economy. An agreement was signed in November 2018 between the Government of Belize and the C.D.F., with an initial budget of two hundred and eighty-nine thousand U.S. dollars. To date, the project has developed the capacity of one hundred individuals from all six districts, the majority of whom are women and youth. A graduation was also held last year for participants in the Cayo District.
