AG Disappointed in Chief Magistrate’s Public Comments on Successor
And, to cast aside aspersions that AG Marin-Young is fully acquainted with the individual that the commission selected to fill the post, she says she does not know much about the person and that she has not interacted with the individual. The AG contended that three Belizeans sit on the commission and while they would have wanted to select a Belizean to fill the post, they had to select someone they thought best fit for that office.
Magali Marin- Young, Attorney General
“There are three Belizeans that sit on the commission Mr. Lopez and I think it is very unfair to be making these comments. It is unfair to be calling out magistrate Ford who is a fine magistrate. But, I can tell you that I am sure and due respect to the commission, I am sure they duly considered who was the most suitable. I am sure those three Belizeans would have wanted somebody form Belize. But, at the end of the day they would have had to select somebody they thought brought leadership qualities that the magistrate desperately need. That person I has just been briefed by the Solicitor General. I don’t know much about the person. I have not interacted, not met the person. But, I am just told that from the feedback of the persons that interviewed her that she interviewed excellently.”
