Man Reported Missing on Private Island
Today, the Belize Police Department issued a missing person’s bulletin for Elrick Lee Vairez. The thirty-one-year-old was reported missing on Monday. He was reportedly last seen walking on a private island eight miles off the coast of Belize City. The details shared so far is that Vairez and fisherman Douglas Gill departed from Conch Shell Bay en route to the island onboard a boat named “Young Lion” last Friday, February seventeenth and relatives say that since then, he has not been seen or heard from. The only information they’ve received is that on Sunday he was seen walking on the island around ten-thirty a.m. ComPol Chester Williams says that they have enlisted the support of the Belize Coast Guard in this case.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“I know that two individuals left to Moho Caye, I believe, which is some eight miles off the coast of Belize City and they have not returned. We are in dialogue with [the Belize] Coast Guard. As you would know, we do not have maritime assets and so we do rely heavily on coast guard when it comes to issues on the maritime domain. And so we are in dialogue with the coast guard and coast guards are out in the area searching. We are hoping that they’d be able to find those individuals alive and return them to their families.”
Elrick Lee Vairez is described as being a fair complexion male person, slim built, about five feet six inches in height, and was last seen wearing red ball pants and a brown shirt.
