Caribbean life insurance underwriters meet in Belize
The Caribbean Association of Life Underwriters today wrapped its Annual General Meeting at the Biltmore Hotel in Belize City. During the three days of deliberations, the two hundred delegates from eleven countries, discussed several topics, among them, the development of a five year plan to further enhance the role of the organization in the region.
Livingston Carter, President, CALU
“Education obviously took the focus because, I don’t know if you are aware but CALU has the franchise for the educational courses in the region. We have an agreement with the C.A.I.F.A., Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and our intention is to be able to market our courses, not only to the life insurance industry but also people in the financial services sector.”
Richard Demming, Trinidad and Tobago
“I was asked to speak on succeeding in challenging times. And I spoke primarily about the attitudes and being sincere about acquiring the necessary knowledge in order to be successful in this industry. We are in a fairly stable condition in that we are doing as much business as we did in previous years. We’re getting more innovative and we are collaborating more with the other financial industries such as banks, etc.”
Martin George, Grenada
“The insurance industry from Grenada is pretty much, they’re not stable but I must say based on production in more recent times, is an indication that we are on the upswing in terms of production and competition of course. You can’t run away from that because we’ve got anything in the range of six life operating companies, and in spite of that with a population of about approximately ninety thousand people, in spite of that a lot of business have been done in Grenada.”
Sylvia Sampson, P.R. Officer, L.U.A. Belize
“We have gained a lot of exposure, especially our agents who have been attending, having had the opportunity to rub shoulders with the best in the industry, in the region. We have had the time to share and really talk to people and go through what their experiences are, and each person gets some kind of their own feed back, if you’re not, you don’t go through your difficulties alone.”
Also this weekend, the tenth annual Sale Congress was held at the same venue. Both the A.G.M. and the Sales meeting were held under the theme: “vision two thousand, the commitment, the challenge.” The Caribbean Association of Life Underwrites is a regional non-profit association of persons engaged in the sale of financial services.
