Former Coast Guard Keyren Tzib is Remanded to Prison
Former Coast Guard officer Keyren Tzib is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after failing to appear in court. Tzib was detained by police on February twenty-third when she skipped a court date for a case of attempted murder. The warrant for Tzib’s arrest was issued by Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft. In court today, Tzib appeared before newly appointed Justice Nigel Pilgrim in the presence of attorney Darrell Bradley. Bradley submitted several reasons why his client did not show up to court, including the fact that the court had given her permission to appear virtually on previous occasions. Crown Counsel Glenford Dennison brought to the court’s attention that despite Tzib’s non-appearance last Wednesday, Justice Sandcroft had given her until four o’clock to appear before him. When that did not happen, a bench warrant was issued. Even with a bench warrant in place, Tzib still did not willingly show up to court and, therefore, remains in custody at the Belize Central Prison until March seventh.
