Child Labour Primarily in the Agricultural Sector
But what are the statistics? Well, as has been reported, the data shows that child labour is primarily found within the agricultural sector.
Oscar Requeña, Minister of Labour
“We see a presence primarily in rural area in the agricultural sector and certainly we need to work with that sector to ensure that our children are not deprived from their childhood. Our children are given the opportunity to be able to grow as I said earlier in a safe and nurturing environment. That is not to say – and I want to make it absolutely clear – because we also need to teach our children good work ethics, responsibilities and you know for them to be able to do their chores. But that aside, it does not mean that we are going to take the children away from and put them in very endangered environments that we are going to take them away from school, that we are going to deprive them from their children experiences. That is what we seek to ensure that does not happen when we have put in place this National Child Labour Policy. We are providing the training and support to work with our frontline workers.”
