Belize City taxi driver robbed at gunpoint
Authorities are investigating a mid-morning armed robbery of a taxi driver in Belize City. Fifty one year old Theodore Henry reported to police that shortly after ten o’clock this morning he was stopped by a young man at the corner of Vernon Street and Lindo’s Alley requesting taxi service. Although he had a passenger in the back seat, Henry told police that he proceeded into the Alley where upon the same person who flagged him down and another man approached the car. Henry said that one of the men, pulled out a gun, pointed it at him and his passenger and demanded money. The robbers proceeded to relieve Henry of one hundred and twenty dollars but could get no money from the passenger. Not content with the loot the robbers reportedly demanded more money at which time Henry tried to outsmart them by saying more money was in the trunk of the car but that he had no key to open the lock. The robbers apparently took the bait and proceeded to shoot off the lock. During the process Henry and his passenger took the opportunity to make a run for freedom. They made their way unto Mosul Street where they requested the assistance of some tourism police officers who were on patrol. But by the time they had returned to the scene of the holdup, the robbers had already made good their escape. Police believe that one of the attackers was recently released from prison and are in hot pursuit of him. No one was injured in the incident.
