Group of tourists robbed at Rio Frio Cave
A group of tourists have been robbed in the Cayo District and it is not good news for the already declining Tourism Industry. Around two-thirty Tuesday afternoon, a tour at the Rio Frio Cave in the Mountain Pine Ridge Area ended with the armed robbery of the group’s belongings. Tour guide, thirty-four year old Everald Tut, told police that while he was on a routine tour of the cave with four tourists, they were held up at gun point by five Hispanic men who are believed to be Guatemalans. The armed robbers, who were dressed in black attire and wore ski masks, were all armed with black pump action shotguns. While no one was injured during the incident, they were deprived of their cell phones, wrist watches, digital cameras, jewelry, cash and other items. The bandits thereafter fled the scene and made good their escape into nearby bushes. Police in the west are conducting an investigation into the incident and have alerted their counterparts in Guatemala.
