Francis Fonseca

As we have reported, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology has the second largest budget for 2023. Two hundred and sixty-one million dollars have been allocated to recurrent expenditure. Seven million dollars have been earmarked for Capital Two investments, while thirteen million dollars will go to Capital Three investments. In his contributions to the debate, Francis Fonseca, the Minister of Education, highlighted his ministry’s focus on ensuring that all schools across the country are equipped with quality internet access, which he says is integral to the success of the ongoing curriculum reform agenda.

Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education

“So, curriculum reform cannot be successful if it does not include efforts to transform delivery methods as well. So, we must consider the practical usage of internet in schools and ensure that all schools has adequate access to the internet and all students has adequate access to devices. So, we are expanding that program to schools countrywide. I can report to you that as of the beginning of March, 2023, more than a hundred and twenty-eight schools have already been successfully connected to the internet, more schools are connected every day. By the end of April 20223 our target goal of a hundred and ninety seven schools country wide will be reached, by the end of April right here, and more than sixty-six thousand, we have a hundred and five thousand in our education system, more than sixty-six thousands of our students across the country will be able to access five hundred mbps, five hundred megabytes of internet installed across their campus as a Wi-Fi managed solution with twenty-four hours support and maintenance.”
