Secondary School Principals Meet in Belize City

The Belize Association of Principals for Secondary Schools, BAPSS, met today in Belize City where school administrators from across the country gathered to discuss a range of issues.  It was also an opportunity for members to learn from each other and take those experiences to their respective classrooms.  Heidi Curry is the president of BAPSS.

“Today we are gathered, principals from all across the country, to spend time learning and growing together and we bring back that inspiration and growth to our campuses.  So when we‘re on campus, we‘re full with all the daily activities and when we come here, we take that pause to grow.  We‘re learning about digital leadership, about working with communities and partners, about putting the pieces together after we experience the first amazing year post-pandemic.”

“What are some of the primary issues that are going to be touched on today in terms of, perhaps, concerns that principals share in common?”

“Principals are in a transformative time.  We have a new curriculum that‘s being launched across the country.  We are leading our youth into a new era where new skills are important, not the same as what the traditional schooling from even fifty years ago that‘s still a remnant in our classroom.  So today we‘re going to be continuing to look at how we can have the wisdom, the fortitude, the tools and resources to lead our teachers, our students and our communities.”

“I noticed that the Belize City mayor is also a part of today‘s activities.  Can you speak to us a bit about his involvement.”

“The mayor is here to welcome us to the beautiful city of Belize, into this amazing center here, the Hub where there is a lot of overlap between the mayor‘s work, the Hub‘s work and our work as principals where we are guiding those youths to make the right choices so we can strengthen Belize for a better future.”
