Displeased Father of Student Expresses Disappointment Over Non-action Against Teacher So Far
The father of a former student of Canaan Seventh Day Adventist High School has reached out once again to the media to express his disappointment that since a teacher at the school allegedly sent his daughter inappropriate messages in January, there has been no definitive action taken by any authority against the teacher. The teacher has been placed on leave while an investigation was set in motion, but there’s been no update on the matter. The parent writes, “Not only have I not received any formal or informal response from anyone – not the school, not the ministry, not any of the committees or groups, organizations, and unions. Everyone was quick to call out the school for not acting fast enough and our children must be protected. Yet, when the time comes for these governing bodies to act, to follow the rules they came up with, they implemented, they are required to adhere to, nothing happens,”. The father told us today that the non-action might mean he has to apply more pressure to get some response.

“Per protocol, as outlined by the Ministry of Education, they have twenty-five business days – the school has twenty-five business days to produce a report on their findings, which then is taken to the ministry for the ministry to evaluate and to then make a decision based on , what the school submits as their findings and report, and for them to come to a conclusion of whether or not the teacher is taken off administrative leave and their employment is restored, or their teaching license is revoked, suspended, what have you? Nothing has gotten back. Additionally, I’d like to add that I’m supposed to be provided with whatever that report the school administration team submits to the Ministry of Education. I haven’t gotten anything, not a single thing. So I sent my email and we’re gonna see what happens from there. It looks like I gotta apply a little bit more pressure. So it’s very disturbing how this is all playing out. And again, it’s in the public eye again, which really brings into question who we have in these institutions, even outside of the school, and if they should be where they are in leadership roles, if they’re this neglectful.”
