Programme for Belize opens Earth Day exhibition
A number of activities took place countrywide today in commemoration of Earth Day. While many of these events sought to bring awareness of the importance of caring for the planet we inhabit, one organization involved in conservation used the occasion to give the public a look at the work it has been doing over the last ten years.
Today primary school students spent most of the morning touring the works of the environmental organization, Programme For Belize. The activity, an exhibition, was held to commemorate Earth Day and as well to celebrate the organization’s tenth anniversary.
Ramon Pacheco, Field Naturalist, P.F.B.
“The whole idea is that we have, we are commemorating Earth Day and Programme For Belize this year is celebrating ten years of existence, since 1988. Hence we felt that this was an opportune time to try and make the public aware of some of the accomplishments, some of the achievements and successes that Programme For Belize has had. And we are trying to also raise the consciousness of the general public on issues of the environment, on issues of development, on issues of linking both conservation with income generating activities that are sustainable.”
While the information collected by the students was educational, it was the exhibition’s layout that seems to impressed the young girls and boys the most. Programme For Belize had managed to transform the Radisson Fort George Lamania Room into a model jungle trail that took students at various spots showcasing P.F.B.’s activities.
The exhibition, which is being mounted at the Radisson Hotel, will run until Saturday.
