Man Who Murdered His Family in 2012 To Appear in Court Thursday

He has spent the last ten years on remand, as he awaits trial for the triple murder of his mother, sister and stepfather back in November 2012. Now, thirty-six-year-old Jared Ranguy could be facing charges if he decides to plead guilty, or if he chooses to take a gamble for a “not guilty” verdict. Ranguy stands accused of the murders of his mom, Karen Skeen-Vellos, sister Teena Skeen, and stepfather Robert Vellos Senior, all of whom were shot and killed in the wee hours of November twenty-fifth, 2012 inside their home on Marage Road in Ladyville. The case was adjourned until Thursday, when Ranguy’s attorney will indicate how his client chooses to face his fate. News Five’s Marion Ali reports.

It was a crime scene that residents of Marage Road in Ladyville would probably never forget – a home cordoned off with caution tape, followed by a police pickup truck transporting the bodies of three family members to the morgue. The date was Sunday, November twenty-fifth, 2012, the victims: fifty-one-year-old Karen Skeen-Vellos, thirty-two-year-old Teena Skeen, and seventy-two-year-old Robert Vellos Senior. “Initial investigations revealed that at approximately three-thirty in the morning, on the same date, a loud noise which sounded like a gunshot was heard from inside the house, reportedly, and this was followed by a loud argument which subsequently was followed by two more apparent gunshots. On the scene police, police recovered three expended nine millimeter shells and a slug and the bodies of Teena Skeen, Abbidale Vellos and Robert Vellos were transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.”
The accused appeared with his attorney, Orson O.J. Elrington in court on Monday, for a sentencing indication, which is a look at how much longer he could be facing behind bars should he plead guilty. Supreme Court Judge, Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft indicated that Ranguy would be looking at three life sentences with the possibility of parole only after he has spent forty years in prison. Considering that he has remained on remand for ten years awaiting trial, his parole would take effect after another thirty years. If Ranguy opts to take his chance with a trial, the prosecution could be calling a number of witnesses to the stand. “When I run straight down the street it was a lot of screaming and bawling, you know. I went straight in and I saw my homeboy, my friend Jareth, you know, he was bleeding from his forehead, sitting down, you know, in front of his house just trembling, shaking. I asked him what happened, you know, he told me it was a home invasion, you know, he was so frightened.”
Ranguy’s attorney, Orson “OJ” Elrington is expected to inform the court whether Ranguy will accept the sentences laid out before him for the triple murder or whether he will decide to face trial. He was offered Supreme Court bail of thirty thousand dollars last year, but failed to come up with that sum and remains in custody at the Belize Central Prison. Marion Ali for News Five.
