“Weh Yuh Di Seh”, The Official Card Game of Belize
From the world stage of beauty pageants to creating a card game like no other, Miss Earth 2021, Destiny Wagner is back in the spotlight. Back in November 2022, Destiny Wagner did a soft launch of a card game she developed called “Weh Yuh Di Seh”. It is a four player or more game, rated M for mature, in which players compete to see who can select the best phrase from their hand of cards to respond to different scenarios from across Belize. Destiny is now ready to bring the color and character of the Belizean Creole language to homes across the country through her card game. News Five’s Paul Lopez sat down with the entrepreneur in tonight’s episode of Belize on Reel.

She is known around the world as Miss Earth 2021. Belizean Destiny Wagner has developed and launched a new card game that is all about the Belizean Creole language and its creative expressions. The name of the game is “Weh Yuh Dih Seh” and it’s branded as the official card game of Belize. Of course, you remember this now popular phrase from the former Prime Minister, Dean Barrow.

These phrases, among a variety of other unique Belizean Creole slangs, are captured in this card game. Wagner stopped by our studio on Coney Drive in Belize City to show us how to play the game.

“So the name of the game is called “Weh Yuh Dih Seh, the Official Card Game of Belize”. It is very simple. Each player will get five white cards and the dealer which will be me will read the black card aloud. You then must select the best card in your hand to answer. It is very simple and I will choose which card I think is the funniest. That person then becomes the dealer. The first card reads, yo lee sista di fight outside, weh yuh di seh?”

“Ok, ok, so as the dealer I will have to go with, Infama haffi dead. Your lee sista snitch pan somebody so. So the game was actually thought about during the pandemic and I played a lot of games with my family because there was not much to do. So, we had a lot of game night and I realized we did not have a game for Belize. We play pitty pat yes, but we needed a game of culture that celebrates our local dialect, language, so I was online and I started reading the Facebook statuses and the comment section in the news and that is where all of these cards came from.”

Destiny has been promoting “Weh Yuh Di Seh” in Belize and the U.S by organizing and executing game nights. The first rendition of the card game was created on index cards which she shared with her friends and family to get their feedback. It is through those comments and responses that she settled on the phrases that would ultimately make the final cut.

“I think Belize, we are very diverse and we have a lot of characters here and we are naturally funny and I think sometimes we underestimate our characters and personalities. So, this was just a way of celebrating that.”

“So this really is your brain child and you have invested your own money into this. What does that mean to you?”
Destiny Wagner
“Well I love my country. If I can do anything to help and celebrate us then I will definitely take advantage of that and do that and this game does that. It is a game for us and by us. It allows us feel a sense of civic pride. It allows us to have something to brag about when tourist comes here. Have you played this game before? When your cousin comes from foreign, hey let us play this game. This game dah fih we.”

As you can tell, a round of Weh Yuh Di Seh can make for a great time of bonding and laughter among peers. As a creative, this former beauty queen says she is ready to take on the world with her product.

“It was launched last November. We have only had a couple games so far and we sold out instantly. So, then I was waiting to get a big shipment and I finally got my big shipment in last month. Now, it’s time to push. I am a creative and my mind is always running and moving and I just want to put out my art. I know that sometimes we stall as entrepreneurs and think that maybe it is not ready. But someone out there wants it. So, I just wanted to put it out there and celebrate our culture.”
