$264 Million Dollar Master Plan to Expand the P.G.I.A.

A master plan to upgrade and expand the Philip Goldson International Airport was also reviewed by Cabinet earlier this week. The comprehensive strategy to modernize the PGIA was requested by government and was put together on behalf of the Belize Airports Concession Company by INFRATA Airport Consultants, a company based in the United Kingdom.  Improving the facility will come in at a price tag of two hundred and sixty-four million dollars. The first phase of the project is already underway with the construction of a new airport access road.  Also in the pipeline is the expansion of the terminal building, the construction of a larger aircraft apron, as well as a new eastern taxiway, parking facility and airport safety equipment. Cabinet has since given the go ahead for the non-Belizean airport development fee to be adjusted. This will serve to finance the new investments, based on projected growth in passenger and aircraft traffic through to 2045.
