Prime Minister heads to Summit
Leaving Belize this morning for Santiago, Chile was Belize’s delegation to the second Summit of the Americas. The four man team is led by Prime Minister Manuel Esquivel and includes Minister of Trade Alfredo Martinez, his P.S. Rodney Neal and Minister Counselor at our embassy in Washington, Claude Haylock. The summit is a follow up to the meeting held in Miami in December 1994. It will focus on education, the strengthening of democracy, economic integration and the eradication of poverty and discrimination throughout the hemisphere. En route to Chile the delegation will stop in the Bahamas for a pre-summit meeting between CARICOM leaders and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
