Load of pharmaceuticals illegally dumped on roadside
It may not be as flagrant a violation as the twice reported dumping of raw medical waste in residential areas, but the pile of debris, dumped and burn today on the old Western Highway near the Burdon Canal Bridge, is still a danger. After receiving a call from a concerned viewer I traveled to the site this afternoon and saw that someone had improperly and illegally disposed of a wide assortment of medical products. The problem was not only that the area is not a dumpsite, but that the drugs, presumably out of date and perhaps contaminated, were not all burned in the fire. That left bottles and boxes of medication lying in plain view, ready to be scavenged, purchased and likely consumed by an unsuspecting public. Some of the documents found in the garbage are over ten years old. It is believed that the load originated either from a drug store or hospital pharmacy.
