Police Dept. receives motorcycles to help combat crime

Story PictureThe Ministry of National Security has unveiled many plans to combat crime as part of a countrywide strategy. To complement the plan and their fleet of vehicles, the ministry got some more wheels. Today at the Curl Thompson Building in the Garden City, the police department received seven motorcycles. Minister of National Security, Carlos Perdomo says the cycles will assist in the fight against crime by providing the cops with flexibility to move around with efficiency. Perdomo told us more.

Carlos Perdomo, Minister of National Security
“You need constant trafficking, constant patrolling, constant visibility and the motorcycle is quite adaptable to that kind of frequency of movement. It’s cheaper to operate and we found the types of bikes that can have two people riding on it in order to give better service, more visibility, quicker response time and patrolling. So this is one of our new ways that we will try to give better service to our communities. We will be getting more bikes in August—ten more bikes, bigger than these from the Taiwanese government. Our new budget will give us a few more and the Merida Initiative will give us a few more with vehicles and so forth.”

The cycles will be deployed in this way: three will go to Belize City, one to Cayo, one to Independence, one to Toledo and one to Ladyville Village.
