Belizean youth deported from Chicago
A nineteen year old Belize City man is back home from the United States, but there was no red carpet rolled out for him at the airport this afternoon. Orin Arnold, who also goes by the name Arthur Shabir Martin was deported from Chicago after he was picked up for the possession of illegal documents. When Chicago police became suspicious of him, they apparently called the Belizean consulate to verify if Arnold was indeed a Belizean as he was claiming. Consular officials in turn called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Belmopan, and as luck would have it, not only was Arnold one of Belize’s very own, he was also wanted on a number of charges. Viewers will recall that in mid-February, police raided an apartment building on Tigris Street in Belize City where a nine millimeter firearm and several rounds of ammunition and a small quantity of drugs were discovered. Shortly after the raid, police arrested and charged another youth, Arthur Burgess for the possession of illegal firearm, ammunition and drugs. Police believe that when Arnold learnt of the raid and subsequent arrest of his partner, that he fled the country. He will face similar charges as those brought against Burgess.
