Recipients of Grant Funding Explain How the Gift Will Benefit Them

Joellie Duarte of the Hope Haven Belize in San Pedro and Prudencia Cal of the Belmopan Active Youths were two of the representatives present today to receive the first half of their organization’s grants. These are organizations that assist people whose lives or wellbeing have been endangered. The representatives explained to the media how the grant will help their organizations.

“We are doing a project for fifteen women. It’s called Events Decorating classes, so what we’ll do is teach them how to do centre pieces, balloon garlands as well as piñatas so they can eventually start up their own small businesses in that field.  We have the children’s home as well as the violence outreach centre where we cater mostly to women and they’re either women in difficult situations, such as abusive situations or they’re just single parents and they’re looking for help, so in our program we’re trying to cater mostly to them and we’ll offer the program to them.”

“The Belmopan Active Youths is one of the largest youth groups in Belmopan. We have served hundreds of youths in different programs that we have done/ BAY has been established since 2012. We do have programs like the mentorship program where we try to train young people and put them into positive programs because a lot of things are going on in this generation, so BAY is one of them making the change in Belmopan. We are getting young adults, age twenty-one and above to mentor these children here. We have girls and boys that we work with.”
