Brads Gaming Company Limited Will Seek Damages over Revoked Contract
Ironically, former Prime Minister Dean Barrow, in his private practice as an attorney, is representing both Brads Gaming Group Limited and Countach Technologies Limited. Late this evening, we spoke with Barrow who informed us that, Kim Chee, the Managing Director at Brads will not be seeking to have the license restored. He informed us that Chee will instead seek a declaration from the court to say that the termination of the contract was wrongful. As a result, Brads Gaming Group Limited will seek damages for the seven years remaining on the exclusive agreement. But, in the interim, members of the public are being advised that effective May second, Brads is no longer licensed to sell or administer the Government Lotteries. The last lottery draw under the present arrangement will be on April thirtieth. Back in January, speaking on the topic, Former Prime Minister Dean Barrow told us in an interview that he is confident the court would support a claim for damages.

“We believe that the government will cancel the license via the Lotteries Committee. We believe that they will be entirely wrong to do so. We believe that when we go to court to challenge that revocation that we will have, we will be in an excellent position to be able to show that in and of itself, the justification offered cannot stand, but that over and above that, you look at the history, you look at the background, you look at what was said. You look at the other action of the government in terms of trying to tax Brads, the license, out of existence, that all that is material upon which we think a court will decide that any revocation is improper and would therefore support a claim for damages.”
It will be interesting to see how the Briceño administration proceeds with the nightly Boledo draw, as well as the weekly Sunday lottery draw, and who will be awarded the lucrative contract going forward.
