11 charged in drug related shooting
Eleven people, including two women, were today taken to Magistrate’s Court by C.I.B. officers to answer to a range of charges in connection with the Logwood Street shooting on Monday night. According to Assistant Inspector Simeon Alvarez, they believe the shoot-out was a result of an order given by a Belize City drug kingpin to Ernest Savery and Alex O’Brien to kidnap one Randolph Tulcey. But according to police reports, both Savery and O’Brien were fired upon after they had ventured into Logwood Street and cruised near Tulcey’s residence.
AIP Simeon Alvarez, Head of C.I.B.
“He reported verbally that he had received information that an attempt was made for him to be kidnapped. Because he had been accused of stealing 48 kilos of cocaine from a known drug kingpin from Belize City.
The investigation continued and the occupants from the green Isuzu trooper were identified to be Ernest Savery and Alex O’Brien, both from the Rocky Road area. In a short interview with Savery, his reasons for being in the area at that time is unknown, he does not want to say what was his motive in that area, what was his mission.
Tulcey did not mentioned that he fired at them. All he said to me that after he received the telephone call, he called his friend from Orange Walk, Dwayne Young who came down along with some friends. The mission, he did not say what was the mission for Dwayne Young in Belize City, but as the incident happened, it clearly stated what was their motive, you know.
The fight is as a result of the theft reported by the Belize City King Pin accusing Tulcey of being the person responsible for the theft of the cocaine. The drug kingpin from my experience, they only give instructions, they don’t handle, they just see that everything is done correct and if there is any mishaps, within the organization. They will give the instruction on what actions to take. So it would be very hard to apprehend the main kingpin because he has other workers below him that do all the dirty work. He just stays and wait for the cash.”
All eleven people were charged with three counts each of possession of unlicensed firearms and unlicensed ammunition. In addition six of the men were charged with two counts each of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder. They are Randolph Tulcey, Wallace Arzu, Dwayne Young, Marlon Henderson, Gregory Foreman and Robert Bainton. While the six accused of attempted murder were not offered bail, the other five were offered bail of three thousand dollars each plus a surety of the same amount. They are to reappear in court on May twenty second.
