Cisco signs contract for Hummingbird Highway
The company did such a good job on the first half of the Hummingbird Highway that it’s now getting a chance to finish the job. Today in Belmopan Cisco Construction, the nation’s premier road builder, was awarded the contract to pave the remaining ten miles of the Hummingbird running from Belmopan to the Sibun Bridge. The total cost of the project is 20.5 million Belize dollars with the government providing 3.5 million, and the rest coming in the form of a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank. The papers were signed this morning in Belmopan by Prime Minister Manuel Esquivel and Cisco CEO John Woods. In addition to today’s contract, which should be finished in 18 months, Cisco is currently rebuilding Faber?s Road and St. Thomas Street in Belize City. The company has previously paved the Western Highway from San Ignacio to Benque Viejo and the northern road from the airport to Haulover Bridge. Both jobs, unlike many before and since, have held up extremely well.
