Jervis Valencia Claims Police are Bullying Him in Hospital

Jervis Valencia

Jervis Valencia, also a member of the Leadership Intervention Unit, was shot a little over a week ago, as he was reportedly returning to his neighborhood following an L.I.U. activity.  He remains hospitalized at the K.H.M.H. where he is recovering from injuries received to one of his legs.  But the Belize City resident, from his hospital bed, is claiming that police are harassing and bullying him, despite his present condition.  Today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams spoke on the issue involving Valencia.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“I will not say that he has been harassed by the police or even bullied.  One needs to understand, certainly there are some people who are trying to create mischief and I am not going to stoop to their level.  The police received certain information and based on the information received, they went to the hospital and they met Jervis.  They spoke to him and he cooperated with police to verify or deny the information.  That was done and police left.  I have seen the video footage and I do not see any sign of him being bullied.  If the police get information right now that guns and drugs are at your home, they will go and search.  It is the nature of police work and we must understand that.  The LIU must not be seen as a shield for anybody to believe that they are not amenable to being searched by the police.  It must not.  I don’t understand what people expect sometime, some people, but I repeat that in no way was Jervis Valencia bullied.  We do appreciated and recognize the fact that Jervis is trying to make a change and we are committed to working with him in making that change.”
