Toledo West Area Rep Says G.O.B. Must Work with Everyone
In Toledo West, the constituency represented by Oscar Requeña, there are as many as twenty-six indigenous communities. Despite a position taken by government that is being met with cold water by the Toledo Alcaldes Association and the M.L.A., we asked if he is prepared to face the potential backlash from the indigenous community.
Oscar Requeña, Area Representative, Toledo West
“This is a very complex process and process that really requires dialogue. So certainly, I am prepared, you know, as the area representative, together with the support of our government and our village leaders because we must engage our leaders, you know, from all communities to settle any disputes. Where possible, we want to settle it in a very amicable manner and for us to do that we have to engage, we have to come to the table. All I ask is that our people be, you know, respectful to each other, that we be reasonable with each other and that we give the process a chance. So to answer your question, we have to work with everyone and that is what I am prepared to do that and we are prepared to do that.”
