Shyne Says G.O.B. Should Consider Taking Over Port of Belize

Oddly enough, Barrow went on to say that perhaps government should consider nationalizing the Port of Belize.  Decades ago, the harbor in Port Loyola was owned and operated by the Government of Belize before it was privatized.  It subsequently fell into receivership in 2012, when the previous owner, Luke Espat, filed for bankruptcy.

“It brings me to a point that I wanted to make about the Port of Belize.  That is something that they should have looked at as far as making it a public asset.  The Port of Belize has been in receivership for quite some time and maybe that is the reason or maybe that contributes to the difficulties that are happening at the Port of Belize and maybe we can do better with the Port of Belize returning to public control which there was a time where the Government of Belize controlled, owned and operated the Port of Belize.  So that is something that would have made sense or could make sense.”
