2 Guatemalans behind bars for firearm offences
In other news, two Guatemalan nationals were caught in the possession of unlicensed guns and ammunition on Friday. On February sixth, at seven-fifty a.m. in Benque, police officers detained twenty-four year old Julio David Abrego Rojas, a driver of San Benito in the Petén District of Guatemala. During a body search conducted at the Benque Viejo Police Station, officers found a nine-millimeter pistol with its magazine loaded with fourteen nine-millimeter rounds of ammunition. Rojas was in the company of twenty-eight year old Bayron Randolfo Us Juarez, a mason, also of San Benito. When Juarez was searched, officers also found a nine-millimeter pistol, and its magazine was loaded with fifteen nine millimeter rounds of ammunition. Rojas and Juarez were both arrested and charged for Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition Without a License. They were arraigned at the San Ignacio Magistrates’ Court, they both pleaded guilty and were sentenced to four years each behind bars; two years for the gun and an additional two years for the ammunition.
