…And nineteen year old gets 6 years for Robbery

An accused robber also had justice meted out to him today. Nineteen year old Burley Card, one of two men charged with two counts of Robbery and one count of Handling Stolen Goods was found guilty in Magistrates’ Court. Card was sentenced to six years for each count, to run concurrently. The other accused man, Leon Garcia, was found not guilty of the charges, but will remain in prison as he is currently serving a seven year sentenced for a previous robbery conviction. The incident in question occurred in July 2007 at Edith’s Jewelry on Orange Street in Belize City. On that day, two men armed with guns entered the store and stole and assortment jewelry from Nigel Gongora and Stephanie Vasquez. The robbery was captured on a surveillance video and shown during the trial. But while Magistrate Fraser was not satisfied that the video clearly identified the accused, the clincher came when Card was found with two pieces of the stolen items shortly after.
