Armando Medina Acquitted of Auto Theft

Twenty-six-year-old Armando Medina, accused of stealing a vehicle valued at forty-five thousand dollars from businessman Yhony Rosado, was acquitted of the charge earlier today, following a no case submission from his attorney.  Medina appeared before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson in the presence of attorney Orson Elrington.  During the trial, footage of the incident that occurred on December fourteenth, 2019 was reviewed.  Those videos were retrieved from Rosado’s surveillance cameras.  Despite looking over the video, the lower court judge was not convinced that the Crown had proved its assertion that Medina was the culprit who made off with the vehicle because it was difficult to identify the individual who entered the vehicle and drove off with it.  With that, the senior magistrate upheld the no case submission and informed Medina that he was free to go.  Following the trial, attorney Elrington spoke with the media.

“The prosecution closed its case, I believe sometime in last week, and at the conclusion of that case we made a no case submission on behalf of the defendant which was essentially to say that the prosecution had not presented the necessary elements to the offense to successfully prosecute him for the offense for which he was charged which was theft of a motor vehicle.  And so, the magistrate, out of an abundance of caution, asked that the video tape that was trying to be used as the primary piece of evidence to be used to convict Mr. Medina be brought back to today which was reviewed once again.  At the end of that, the magistrate returned and said effectively that he agreed with our position that the evidence provided did not substantiate the charges and, therefore, he was acquitted of the offense for which he was charged.”
