P.U.P. candidates launch City Council manifesto
The countdown to the March fourth municipal elections is on and so far the overall campaign has not been picking up much traction except for some political ads in the media. Today the opposition P.U.P., that is hoping to capitalize on the chaos and infighting at City Hall, launched its Manifesto for the city at Independence Hall on Queen Street. In addition to attendance by party faithfuls, the P.U.P. team was supported by deputies Cordell Hyde, Mark Espat and Leader of the Opposition John Briceño. All ten candidates for councillors and the mayoral aspirant delivered punches against the incumbent U.D.P. council. But the focus of the morning was the man on whom the party is placing its faith and hope to “tek back di city”; and he is former C.E.O. of Education, Doctor Cecil ‘Chubby’ Reneau. Reneau held back no punches and put blame squarely on the current council for its financial woes, inability to pay for garbage collection and what he saw as inflated paychecks to the mayor and councillors.

“We believe that leadership must be visionary. Leadership must be rooted in experience, inspiring and truly representative if it is to facilitate real change. Join us in this change. Point seven on our plan of action highlights the importance of building on the past, adding value to the present, and planning for the future. Join us and we will deliver. We will deliver. P.U.P.! All the way. P.U.P.! All the way!”
John Briceño, Leader of the Opposition
“Ladies and gentlemen I’ve been listening keenly and I feel the excitement from you because I know we, in the city, we are ready to tek back this city. We ready to get rid of Z. Z da zed after zero. We have to get ah off. All we need is People’s United Party back in city hall. It is your job to make people understand that we are no longer going to be paying our mayor a hundred and five thousand a year. That is criminal when people can’t get a job. It is criminal to be paying a councilor over three thousand dollars a month to go for one meeting when we can’t go pick up the garbage. And we can’t clean the drains. You need to let the people understand what Chubby Reneau and his team will do for you.”

“On our first day in office, our first official act will be to pass a resolution that the allowance of the mayor shall be no more than four thousand five hundred dollars per month. Or that adds up to fifty-four thousand dollars per year. We have also agreed that the allowance of the councilors shall be no more than one thousand two hundred and ninety-two dollars per month, or fifteen thousand, five hundred per year. When you add that all up together and you do your subtraction and addition, you will see that the savings on salaries alone will amount to two hundred and forty thousand dollars. Do the arithmetic. We’re not coming cheap, we’re coming more efficient, we’re coming better, we’re coming more dedicated and we’re coming with new inspirational leadership.”
There are thirty-eight thousand plus registered voters in the city who will determine whether or not the P.U.P. will return to City Hall or whether U.D.P. will get another term.
And do not forget that on Open Your Eyes tomorrow morning, the mayoral candidates from both parties from San Ignacio will be taking the spotlight so stay tuned.
