Wilmer Rivera is Arraigned for Attempted Murder of Ex-Girlfriend
Thirty-one-year-old Wilmer Javier Rivera appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court earlier today where he was arraigned on two indictable offenses of attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm. The charges follow an incident on May nineteenth, where Rivera inflicted multiple stab wounds on Jasmine Aguilar. The woman was standing on Linda Vista Street near the Belize Foam Factory when she was attacked by her ex-boyfriend who proceeded to stab her in the abdomen and then cut her throat. Tonight, Rivera is on remand at the Belize Central Prison until July twenty-eighth, when he is scheduled to return to court. This afternoon around midday, Rivera, a construction worker of the Gungulung area of Belize City, appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford where both charges were read to him.
