WASA engineer dies after diving
News has been received of the death of thirty nine year old Denroy McCord. McCord, who was the chief engineer for the Water and Sewerage Authority, is reported to have gone snorkeling Sunday morning with a number of friends off southern Long Caye about thirty miles southeast of Belize City. It is reported that McCord, after diving in the water, got very exhausted and started to gasp for air. While he managed to make it back to their twenty three foot fiberglass skiff, reports are that McCord started suffering from seizures. His lungs finally collapsed and McCord died shortly afterwards. His body was then flown in by a British forces helicopter to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Today a post mortem examination was conducted. It revealed that McCord died of acute pulmonary edema or fluid retention inside his lungs.
